Day 14 London-Day 3 2nd Honeymoon

We have a Premium Tour today on a nice new bus.  First stop-Stratford Upon Avon to visit the birthplace of William Shakespeare.

Avon means river so there are many
towns "upon avon".
Very lovely little town. Outdoor cafes and sweet little shops.

After our tour of his childhood home, we went to the school he studied at. This took place in the late 1600's.

We actually sat in the room where only boys were educated and it was very interesting. Their form of education and lives at the time was very challenging. The head Master gave us a latin lesson.

I worked on some quill and ink writing. Those of you who know me, know I loved it.

Dave and I visited a pub where he tried some local brew. This pub has been here since the 1600's.

Amazingly in good shape. The windows top windows were original blown glass. Incredible.

In the 1600's adults had 8 pints of ale a day. That was just normal hydration. But if you went over the 8, they called you a toddler. You can guess why. We did not become toddlers.

Next stop was Warwick Castle.

Began in 1068 by William the Conqueror. It has been visited by Royalty forever. As recently as Queen Elizabeth and Princess Diana.

The "R" after Queen Elizabeth's stands for Regina-the Latin word for Queen.

This is a clock gifted from Marie Antoinette

In the 1930's a song was written for the Daisy Greville, Countess of Warwick. You know it, it goes-Daisy Daisy tell your answer true, I'm half crazy over the love of you.....remember?

In 1978 the current Duke at that time could not pay the inheritance tax and sold it to Tussuad Wax. Now there are wax figures throughout which make it seem like they are still there. Pretty cool.

Anne Boleyn  Queen Anne  King Henry VIII

Beautiful grounds and really cool artifacts with history to go with it. It was like the best Renaissance fair ever!!

Dave ran into a little trouble before we left!!!

On our way back we drove through the Cotswolds. Beautiful countryside with thatched roofed cottages and rolling hills.

We stopped in Oxford and had a great dinner. Meat pies. Very tasty.

Christ Church Cathedral is at the end of this photo. A part of Oxford University. Their dining hall is was used in Harry Potter.
